Francesca Koe has joined the Cordell Marine Sanctuary Foundation’s board of directors, and brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Francesca is an advocate, narrative organizer and communications strategist bringing over 20 years of experience in understanding the dynamic human ecosystems that house stakeholders, community building, policy action, research, creative development, and storytelling. A champion for ocean conservation, Francesca was instrumental in designing & implementing marine protected areas (MPAs) along the California coast as a primary in the California Marine Life Protection Act Initiative. The former Director of Strategic Initiatives at NRDC, Francesca has been successful in the passage of many local & national policies by spurring the creation of robust coalitions to include and amplify voices from diverse cultures – centering people with lived experiences.

As a multi-agency & multi-disciplinary dive instructor and instructor trainer Francesca’s extensive underwater portfolio ranges from kelp forests to coral reefs and beyond.

Francesca also serves as the Program Chair for the Greater Farallones Association (GFA), the President of USA Freediving, the Technical Director of the United States Freediving Federation and is an internationally active judge for both AIDA and CMAS.
